Girls Group

Girls Group fosters friendship and social interaction through group activities.
This pediatric program offered by the MMI Department of Recreational Therapy, encourages friendship and social interaction among female teens and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through activities with peers.
- Girls ages 13-21 are invited to participate.
A trained recreation therapist runs Girls Group with the assistance of activity technicians, all of whom are also female. Participants choose the activities and the focus of this program is to participate in fun activities together with peers.
Typical group events include:
- Concerts.
- Festivals.
- Holiday fun and games.
- Nail painting.
- Plays.
- Sporting events.
- Other activities at MMI or across the Omaha metro.
Details and Schedule
The Girls Group typically meets once a month on weekend afternoons or evenings.
- Space in this program is limited.
- Transportation is typically provided from our location to the event and back to MMI.
- There is a fee for this program and scholarships may be available.
This program is not designed for individuals who need extensive 1-to-1 supervision and/or have severe behavior, such as aggressive acts towards others, self-injurious behaviors and/or destruction of property (throwing and/or damaging furniture or belongings.)
