After School Program

Our after school program engages youth and young adults in recreational activities and play.

The After School Program offered by MMI Department of Recreational Therapy provides individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities opportunities to experience engaging programming and a snack, similar to most after school programs. Trained recreation therapists run this program with the assistance of activity technicians and typically developing volunteers.

  • Students K-12 and individuals who are in transition programs through age 21 are eligible to participate.
Activities include:
  • Art.
  • Recreational play.
  • Snack time.
  • Social games.
  • Sports.
  • Swimming.

Details and Schedule

The After School Program runs for twelve weeks in the spring and fall. Participants are able to attend two days a week on either the Monday/Wednesday session or the Tuesday/Thursday session.

Participants may begin arriving at 3:30 p.m. and pick up is at 5:30 p.m.

  • Space in this program is limited.
  • MMI does not provide transportation. Omaha Public Schools bussing will transport students from OPS schools to MMI for the After School Program.
  • There is a fee for this program and scholarships may be available.

This program is not designed for individuals who need extensive 1-to-1 supervision and/or have severe behavior, such as aggressive acts towards others, self-injurious behaviors and/or destruction of property (throwing and/or damaging furniture or belongings.)
