Functional Behavior Assessment

Functional Behavior Assessment is a group of strategies used to better understand why a challenging behavior is occurring.

Understanding why allows families, caregivers and providers to have better chances of being successful in preventing and managing behaviors that might be a barrier to someone’s development, employment or quality of life.

Functional Behavior Assessments are sometimes referred to by their acronym, FBA.

Eligibility

  • Individuals who are 21 or older and receive services through the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Developmental Disabilities.
    • We do provide Functional Behavior Assessments for individuals under 21. However, these assessments are billed to the patient’s insurance, and we cannot guarantee insurance will cover the Functional Behavior Assessments.
  • Individuals with a developmental disability (i.e., intellectual disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder).
