Adult Cardiovascular Genetics Clinic

Two hands making the shape of a heart

Many heart rhythm disorders or diseases of the heart are caused by underlying genetic factors that can be passed down through families.

  • Arrhythmias is the medical term for heart rhythm disorders, or irregular beat.
  • Cardiomyopathies is the medical term for diseases of the heart muscle.

Individuals known to have these conditions can benefit from genetic counseling and genetic testing by determining the specific cause of their condition.

Because many of these diseases and disorders have been identified to have a genetic origin, they can "run through families." This means the results of genetic testing can also be helpful to determine who in the family is at risk of developing these heart conditions.

Specialty Care

This clinic is a partnership between UNMC’s Munroe-Meyer Institute and Nebraska Medicine and specialists from both groups provide services.
