Hereditary Cancer Clinic

The Hereditary Cancer Clinics specializes in evaluation of personal and family cancer histories in individuals diagnosed with cancer and/or their family members.
Cancer is a common occurrence. However, some families may have more than their share of cancer diagnoses.
After a thorough review and discussion, risk assessments based on these histories can be provided, along with recommendations for genetic testing for hereditary cancer syndromes.
A typical clinic evaluation includes individuals and/or families meeting with a board-certified, licensed genetic counselor from MMI's Department of Genetic Medicine. These are health care providers trained to use extensive family history and genetics risk-assessment models to sort out multiple cancer diagnoses in a family to determine if genetic testing may be useful.
If genetic testing is recommended, your genetic counselor will provide information about the testing process and help coordinate testing if you choose. Additional resources may be provided to assist families and caregivers. You will receive a letter summarizing your discussion within a few weeks of the visit.
