Sexuality Education for People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

The goal of this research study is to measure changes in attitudes and knowledge in regard to sexual health with the implementation of the Elevatus curriculum, a sexuality education curriculum developed for and by people with I/DD.  Information will be collected through a pre- and post-assessment and focus groups.

This study will last 12 weeks, during which we will meet with you up to 15 times. The purpose of this study is to evaluate how well this type of health and sexual education works for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We also want to learn about your experience with the classes and how much you gain from them.

 

If you choose to participate, here’s what will happen: 

  1. You will complete a short survey about yourself and take a test to show what you already know about sexual health. 
  1. You will attend weekly classes with us for 12 weeks to learn about sexual health. 
  1. After the classes, you will take another test to show what you have learned. 
  1. You will also have the opportunity to share your thoughts about the classes in a group discussion and a survey. The group discussion will be recorded so we can review it later. 

Your participation is completely voluntary, and you can decide not to join or to stop participating at any time by letting us know. 

Courses will be the following dates (you will choose one series):

Mondays, 8:30-9:30a beginning February 17th  

OR 

Tuesdays, 12:30-1:30p beginning February 4th  

OR 

Thursdays, 5-6p beginning February 6th
