As Nebraska’s designated University Center of Excellence for Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service, the institute provides services and supports across the state and assists individuals and families in finding services within their communities.

As an academic unit of UNMC, MMI is committed to training health care professionals who will provide future care to children and adults with disabilities.

MMI offers educational opportunities for graduate students, interns and fellows to gain the latest knowledge in a variety of disciplines and programs at a premier academic institution.
MMI provides in-service continuing education opportunities to practicing professionals in multiple disciplines.
MMI helps high school students explore their interests in science and delivery of health services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Our research program assures that MMI is a world leader in advancing knowledge to benefit individuals with disabilities and complex health care needs.

MMI receives approximately $5.9 million in federal research funding annually.
MMI is home to innovative research labs pioneering groundbreaking discoveries spanning genetics to neuroscience.

MMI provides approximately 95,000 yearly services for clients across the lifespan with 55% taking place in the community. 

MMI utilizes an interdisciplinary team approach that assures a comprehensive service program, including caregivers, teachers, therapists and community service providers.
MMI has more than 34 provider locations with 15 outside Omaha and more than 90 types of service provided.
MMI provides state-wide technical assistance and consultation to Nebraska public schools and other programs across the state that provide services to children, youth and adults with disabilities.

Immunization Policy

As part of the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and as a facility that provides health care services, the Munroe-Meyer Institute requires that all students be compliant with UNMC’s vaccination policies. Drug testing may be required by some of MMI’s collaborating training partners.
