Medical Genetics

This two-year accredited program offers training necessary to diagnose, treat and counsel individuals.

Program Accreditation

Our program is certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics through the Munroe-Meyer Institute and by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education under the Department of Pediatrics at UNMC.

Program Goals

The Medical Genetics Clinical Fellowship program aims to provide you with practical clinical experience working with adult and pediatric patients and families who have a known or suspected genetic disease.

This will help you learn various approaches to clinical and laboratory evaluation, management and counseling. As a fellow, you will have access to diverse training opportunities in medical genetics, including clinical, counseling and laboratory research.

Clinical Experience

Patients are referred from Nebraska and surrounding states. In addition to prenatal, cancer and general genetics clinics, Nebraska boasts an extraordinary number of specialty clinics including: 

  • Autism Diagnostic.
  • Biochemical/Metabolic.
  • Bone Dysplasia.
  • Cardiac Adult Genetics.
  • Cardiovascular / Genetics.
  • Children’s Complex Care.
  • Craniofacial.
  • Cystic Fibrosis.
  • Down syndrome.
  • Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders.
  • Movement Disorders.
  • Outreach clinics throughout the state of Nebraska.

Fellows will also spend time in Nebraska Medicine’s Warren G. Sanger Human Genetics Laboratory.

Applicant Requirements

Applicants must have completed an ACGME-accredited training program and be board eligible in pediatrics, internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, or other relevant specialty.
