Professional Bio

After completing her internship at MMI in 2012, De Bruin joined MMI to pilot an adult day program in collaboration with Develop Unite Empower Together, a disability service provider, to provide therapeutic swim and community outreach services for adults with medical fragilities. In 2017, she transitioned to be the department’s volunteer coordinator where she had the opportunity to work collaboratively with students from surrounding high schools and universities to provide training on working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

In 2020, she became the Assistant Director and now has the pleasure of training the department’s 75+ part-time staff. De Bruin has also worked as a program coordinator for Ollie Webb Center, Inc., which helped cultivate her understanding of the barriers faced by young adults with developmental disabilities and their families as well as the need for advocacy to ensure their rights and inclusion. She is currently enrolled in the Medical Sciences Interdepartmental Area PhD program at UNMC and is passionate about providing sexuality education services for people with IDD.
