Proclamations honor organizations and highlight issues and causes about which Nebraskans care.
The Munroe-Meyer Institute has requested and been issued several proclamations recognizing issues important to disability and inclusion.
Munroe-Meyer Day
September 16, 2019.
The 100th anniversary of the Munroe-Meyer Institute was marked on Sept. 16, 2019, when Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts issued a proclamation naming Sept. 16 “Munroe-Meyer Institute Day.” Read a UNMC Newsroom article.
Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month
March 9, 2020.
President Ronald Reagan first recognized March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness month in 1987. Each year, the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities, the Association of University Centers on Disabilities and the National Disability Rights Network lead a campaign in which people with and without disabilities join to raise awareness about inclusion of people with developmental disabilities as well as the barriers they encounter on a daily basis.
Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert issued a proclamation on March 9, 2020 to recognize this initiative. Read a UNMC Newsroom article.
National Disability Employment Awareness Month
October 26, 2022.
During October each year, we are reminded of the value and talent workers with disabilities add to our workforce as we celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month. On the 77th anniversary of this annual celebration, Jeffrey Gold, MD, chancellor of the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and James Linder, MD, chief executive officer of Nebraska Medicine, issued and signed a proclamation reinforcing their commitment to an inclusive workforce at UNMC and Nebraska Medicine. Pediatric Feeding Awareness Month
2023; 2024.
In 2017, May was established as Pediatric Feeding Disorder Awareness Month to raise awareness, promote understanding and provide support for children and their families impacted by pediatric feeding disorder.
