Earthenware Pap Boat, circa 1700s

McGoogan Health Sciences Library’s art collection comprises of a wide variety of works including paintings, portraits, prints, photographs, and sculptures. Many of the works relate to medicine, with much of the portraiture highlighting significant individuals in UNMC’s history. Other works are by regional artists of some note, while some are non-medical works produced or personally collected by alumni, students, faculty, and staff.

The artifact collection covers a wide range of three-dimensional health sciences tools and educational materials. Many of the artifacts are associated with archival collections and are items used or collected by UNMC faculty, staff, and students. Other items reflect the history of health sciences in the state of Nebraska and were collected from community members across the state. Some of the larger collections include the Marion E. Alberts, MD, infant feeder collection, the John Riale Hornberger, MD, surgical instrument collection, and the wax moulage collection.
