Policy for Sleep Medicine Fellow Eligibility
ELIGIBILTY:
- Applicants with one of the following qualifications are eligible for appointment to the UNMC Sleep Medicine training program.
- Graduate of a medical school in the United States or Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Educations (LCME).
- Graduate of a college of osteopathic medicine in the United States accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
- Graduate of a medical school outside the United States or Canada who have received a currently valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
- Acceptance of applicants into the Sleep Medicine fellowship training program requirements:
- Passage of the USMLE Parts 1, 2, and 3 or COMPLEX.
- Satisfactory completion of an ACGME accredited core program in anesthesiology, child neurology, family medicine, internal medicine, neurology, otolaryngology, pediatrics, or psychiatry.
- The applicant must provide verification of each entering fellow’s level of competency in the required field using ACGME or CanMEDS Milestones assessments from the core residency program.
- Appropriate documentation satisfying the fellowship program’s requirements, as stated above, prior to entrance into the program.
- That each house staff physician must possess either a Temporary Educational Permit or a permanent license in Nebraska prior to beginning postgraduate training.
Applications are accepted through the ERAS program.
Your ERAS application should include:
- Completed ERAS common application form
- Three letters of recommendation (including one from your Residency or Fellowship Program Director)
- USMLE or COMPLEX transcript with scores to date
- Medical School transcript
- ECFMGE (for foreign medical school graduates)
- Personal Statement
- Visa’s Sponsored: J-1 & H-1B (if applicable)
Those interested in applying to the Sleep Medicine Fellowship Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center should apply via ERAS. We begin reviewing applications in July/August of each year and conduct interviews through October preceding the match. Our program participates exclusively in the NRMP to select a one-year Sleep Medicine Fellowship candidate.
