The UNMC Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology emphasizes education and ongoing training for faculty, fellows, residents, medical students and other trainees. Our professional associations with radiology, pathology, pediatric gastroenterology and surgery leads to a well-rounded educational experience.

Gut Club

Learn more about the Gut Club meeting, featuring guest speaker Dr. Eamonn M. Quigley, past president of the American College of Gastroenterology and the World Gastroenterology Organization, and head of Houston Methodist Hospital's Gastroenterology and Hepatology division.

Gastroenterology Fellowship

This sought-after fellowship includes hands-on experience with primary and consultation inpatients, endoscopic procedures, Nebraska Medicine and and VA outpatients, and at a fellow-staffed continuity clinic. Training is provided in all procedural aspects of gastroenterology and liver disease, including diagnostic and therapeutic ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound. Led by Program Director Katie Hutchins, MD

Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship

This fellowship teaches requisite cognitive and technical aspects of interventional endoscopy. Trainees will receive hands-on experiences in diagnostic and therapeutic EUS, ERCP, luminal stenting, management of complex GI fistulae, small bowel enteroscopy, and POEM. Led by Program Director Ishfaq Bhat, MD

Transplant Hepatology Fellowship

UNMC is home to one of the most reputable and well-known liver transplant programs in the country, making our team uniquely qualified to offer this one-year fellowship. It is accredited by the ACGME and fulfills the requirements for the ABIM certifying examination in transplant hepatology. Led by Program Director Timothy McCashland, MD

Grand Rounds originated as part of residency training to present clinical problems and focus on current or interesting cases. For our department, grand rounds is an integral component of medical education, teaching new information and enhancing clinical reasoning skills.
