Each year, iEXCEL recognizes and celebrates faculty and health care professions who created and implemented new ideas for teaching, research and scholarship using simulation technologies and the unique capabilities of the Davis Global Center.

Winner: Cory Rohlfsen, MD, assistant professor, UNMC College of Medicine
Development of HEAL OSTE, an innovative training preparing students on the teaching track through human simulation activities involving peer evaluation and self-reflection.
Honorable Mention: Jesse Umbra, MHPTT, RDCS, RVT, College of Allied Health Professions
Supported simulations on ultrasound-guided IVs, VR ultrasound trainers and other high-fidelity training.

Strategic planning and implementation of an innovative vascular surgery curriculum while also applying for grants to secure funding, growth and sustainability for this valuable teaching module.

Creation of an interprofessional activity involving UNMC rural pathways students, who connected from several UNMC campuses simultaneously using iWall technologies.

Implementation of PT/OT EASE training involving Nebraska Medicine nurses and innovative human simulation that prepares learners for hospital rotations.

Development and implementation of interdisciplinary surgical simulations involving ENT and urology for complex cases.
Honorable Mention: Kaitlin Dougherty, MD, Department of Emergency Medicine, College of Medicine
Development and implementation of novel scenarios for the Residency Prep Course, as well as coordination and delivery of monthly simulations for Emergency Medicine.
Winner: KP Gesch, BSN, RN, Nebraska Medicine Women and Infant Service
Advancement of simulation within the Davis Global Center, including Nebraska Medicine nurse orientation, UNMC High School Alliance and UNMC College of Nursing interprofessional obstetrics simulations.

Development of an inter-departmental project involving Nebraska Medicine, GME, and the Instructional Design teams that significantly increased both the quantity and quality of telehealth training.

Ongoing collaboration with iEXCEL to produce 3D interactive visualization modules that leverage multiple visualization technologies to establish a Master’s in Respiratory Care program at UNMC.

Innovative utilization of interactive touch walls throughout the Davis Global Center for student poster sessions, enhancing the presentation quality, interactivity and impact of the research presented through the incorporation of experiential teaching technologies.
