New Employees
Welcome to UNMC
We're glad you're here. As you begin your journey at UNMC, there are a few steps you'll need to take on or before your first day.
For contact information, guides and maps, refer to our New Employee Handbook.
Provide Employment Eligibility and Identification Information
When your hiring department provides information about the onboarding process, you will be asked for proof of employment eligibility and identification along with a completed federal Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9. Your hiring department also will provide information about background checks, W-4s and other necessary items. Make sure to review what is needed to avoid a delay in your start date.
- Follow these instructions for how to complete Section 1 of the I-9 form.
- Per U.S. Department of Homeland Security requirements, only original versions can be accepted (no photocopies, faxes or electronic versions of any kind). Review this list of acceptable forms.
Arrange Parking and Photo ID
On your first day, head to the Business Service Center at 4230 Leavenworth (enter on the north side) to obtain your UNeCard photo i.d., arrange for parking, and learn about TravelSmart options, such as carpooling and bus benefits. If your worksite is not on the main Omaha campus, your hiring department will provide instructions for your i.d. and parking.
Sign Up for Benefits
If you are a benefits-eligible new employee, you must enroll for benefits coverage within 31 days of your hire date or eligibility date. Enrollment after the initial 31 day period is limited to the annual NUFlex enrollment or when a permitted election change event occurs. For more information regarding benefits, please contact our benefits team at 402-559-4340.
Attend New Employee Orientation
New employees are required to attend our virtual orientation, which is held on Zoom. You likely will be automatically enrolled, but your hiring department can request a different date, if necessary. Plan to be present for the entire orientation, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. If you need accommodations for attending orientation, please contact Employee Relations.
Complete Compliance Training
Compliance and regulatory trainings will be assigned to you based on your role or the needs of the organization. You will be assigned to online courses in the Employee Services platform. Complete the training courses within the assigned deadlines.
Review UNMC Policies and Guidelines
Learn about the policies, programs and benefits available to UNMC employees in the Human Resources Employee Guidelines.
