The recent outbreak of Ebola in Uganda has been deemed “contained,” according to the Minister of Health. This statement follows the announcement that eight patients who contracted the often deadly hemorrhagic fever have fully recovered. “Currently, the spread of Ebola is under control thanks to the robust measures implemented by the government and international agencies to combat the disease,” stated Ugandan Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng.
The eight patients “have received treatment and are now fully recovered. This represents a significant advancement,” she added. Minister Aceng explained that these individuals were discharged from a hospital in the capital, Kampala, on Tuesday and Wednesday, where they had been receiving care.
The minister noted that individuals who had come into contact with the deceased remain “under quarantine for monitoring.” Earlier in February, Uganda reported nine cases of the Sudan strain of the Ebola virus, including that of a nurse who died at the end of January.
