Treatment centres, mobile laboratories to support national response teams. An effort to curb Tanzania’s second outbreak of Marburg virus disease in almost two years includes enhanced case detection, treatment centres, and a mobile laboratory in the northwestern Kagera region.
The virus that causes Marburg, which is similar to Ebola, is highly virulent, with a high fatality rate. It is transmitted to people from fruit bats, and spreads through direct contact with the bodily fluids, surfaces, and materials.
Africa CDC said at a press conference that 10 cases had been reported, including two confirmed and 29 listed as probable. A total of 281 contacts are being closely monitored.
