More Minnesota turkeys struck by avian influenza

Highly pathogenic avian influenza was confirmed in a commercial meat turkey flock in Stearns County on June 13.

The case was reported by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).

With this latest detection, Minnesota has now had 11 commercial poultry flocks affected by HPAI in 2024. Prior to this, the last premises in the state was affected on June 12 in Lyon County.

Other counties to have positive detections include Meeker, Morrison, Lyon and Dodge.

To date, all HPAI cases in Minnesota have been of the H5N1 serotype.

Since the beginning of the 2022-24 HPAI outbreak, no state has had more flocks affected that Minnesota. In 2022, there were 81 flock infections and in 2023 there were 34.
