KCRA News California county fairs and shows will no longer include poultry and dairy cattle exhibitions as the state deals with the spread of H5N1 bird flu.
The State Veterinarian issued the ban last week, the California Department of Food and Agriculture said. Officials did not say how long the ban would be in effect, just stating it would be in place “until further notice.” In Stanislaus County, fair organizers decided not to officially cancel its planned poultry and dairy cattle exhibitions.
“This does not mean that there may not be a time prior to the start of the fair that we will not have any choice but to cancel,” organizers wrote in the letter to exhibitors.
