Dublin Zoo have isolated their flamingos after a case of bird flu was discovered among the colony.

The Flamingo Lagoon is currently closed as Dublin Zoo carry out testing. Approximately 100 Chilean flamingos are housed there.

All of the birds have been vaccinated and received subsequent boosters, but Dublin Zoo said “infection can occasionally still occur as this isolated case shows”.

They said in a statement: “The rest of the flamingo population appear healthy and show no symptoms. As per protocol and as a precautionary measure, the flamingo population has been isolated and moved to a controlled area of the habitat for testing.
