Travel Reminders

Before traveling, please remember to:

  • Research your destination, including details about the location, weather, safety issues, immunization requirements and recommendations.
  • Call your banks and credit card companies to register your travel.
  • Ensure your passport and visa are valid for at least six months.
  • Keep a photocopy of your passport or visa with you at all times and save electronic version in case of emergencies.
  • Print your travel insurance card and save an electronic version.
  • Consider your health needs and bring necessary and fully labeled medication.
  • Get any required vaccinations for your destination country.
  • Pack appropriately.
  • Learn a few words in the local language.
  • Check to see if your cell phone will work internationally, consider buying a short-term international plan or SIM card for your trip.
  • Set an out-of-office response in your email account to let people know your responses will be delayed.

The University of Nebraska partners with Crisis24 to provide comprehensive safety information, location alerts, and security assistance via the optional Worldcue Mobile App for our traveling faculty, students and staff. The mobile app offers the following features:
Per diem guidance
The University of Nebraska provides quick-reference guides regarding per-diem allowances and expense reports.
Smart Traveler Enrollment Program
The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a free service to allow US citizens and nationals traveling abroad to enroll their trip with the nearest US Embassy or Consulate. Non-US citizens and nationals should register with the embassy of their country of citizenship.
Travel Insurance
Learn about UNMC-required travel insurance and the opportunity to purchase additional coverage for personal days or travel companions.
Export Control
Some countries are subject to U.S. export control regulations. If you are traveling internationally, you must complete a travel checklist through the UNMC Export Control Office within five days of booking your flight.
