Research

Research at the Genetics, Cell Biology and Anatomy department spans from basic to translational areas including genomics and Bioinformatics. Basic research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration, transcriptional regulation of Leukemia and Lymphoma, effect of pollutants to induce congenital malformations and estrogen induced immune function and tumorigenesis. Key translational focus areas include the identification of novel molecular diagnostic/prognostic makers for breast cancer therapy, molecular characterization of malignant B-cells and translational application of stem cell biology. Recently, GCBA department has acquired added strength in Genomics and Bioinformatics with the addition of new faculty in these emerging areas. Focus areas include mammalian genomics (Macaque genechip), transcriptome studies, and computational systems biology projects on protein-protein and domain-domain interaction networks.

The department hosts six cores and centers providing high end research facilities in Next Gen / Traditional Sequencing, Microarray Analysis, Bioinformatics Research, Virtual/Electron Microscopy and Mouse Genome Engineering.
