About Dr. Richards

Sarah Richards, MD is a practicing hospitalist in the Division of Hospital Medicine and the Senior Medical Director for Clinician Experience for Nebraska Medicine. Sarah attended medical school and residency at UNMC and has been a member of the faculty since 2011. Sarah’s interest in clinician burnout and wellbeing started during her residency after she herself struggled with burnout and a complicated twin pregnancy. She has been in a formal clinician wellbeing leadership role for the Division of Hospital Medicine since 2015 and has led the organization’s clinician wellbeing efforts since 2017. She completed a Chief Wellness Officer leadership course at Stanford and her coach training through Spiro/AAMCC in 2021.

Sarah believes that the foundation of good coaching is a trusting relationship. She enjoys coaching on a variety of topics including burnout, professional satisfaction, work-life integration, challenges faced by leaders, and the unique challenges that come with being a woman and a mother in medicine. Through one-on-one coaching sessions with Sarah, you will feel empowered to think creatively and thoughtfully about how best to move forward with the challenges you bring to the sessions.

One of Dr. Richards' Favorite Coaching Questions

I love to ask people to “walk me through the best-case scenario.” This encourages the person to consider that it’s possible that everything will work out and to consider what needs to happen to have a successful outcome.
