Ashok Puri, MBBS, MS
Dr. Ashok Puri serves as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). His research focuses on developing AI driven tools for quantification of disease/biomarker from medical images, self-correcting AI models that can rectify their inaccurate diagnosis, designing surgical planning tools using a digital twin of the eye, and developing graphs and retrieval augmented generation (GraphRAG) based chatbots for interactive medical learning. He is also a faculty member at the Center of Intelligent Healthcare, UNMC, and participates in AI research related to Ophthalmology at Children’s, Omaha.

Before joining UNMC, Dr. Puri practiced clinical ophthalmology in Jaipur, India for over 35 years, pioneering phacoemulsification in Rajasthan in 1993, and LASEK in India in 2001. Following AI training, Dr. Puri developed image classification models and models to predict refractive errors from ocular biometric data, which earned awards at international forums. He has also worked on the interpretability of deep learning CNN models for medical images.
