Participating Sites and Agencies

The fellow will have multiple opportunities to observe and participate in patient care through riding with the medic unit or paramedic shift supervisor, and participating in quality assurance and administrative tasks with the medical director.

Nebraska Medical Center 

This is where the fellow will spend the vast majority of their training and clinical time. The site is home to a state-of-the-art simulation center and one of the nation’s largest biocontainment health care facilities. It is a large volume, hospital-based clinic and clinics are site-specialty-based. The faculty also have primary offices here.

Children’s Nebraska

The fellow will experience both observation and hands-on patient care and will be integrated into the critical care transport team. This will allow the fellow to gain critical care transport experience with the pediatric population.

Omaha Fire Department

Omaha Fire serves as our largest emergency medical services provider in the area and the fellow will be exposed to a wide variety of patient types, become familiar with an urban fire-based EMS agency, and participate in administrative duties.

Bellevue Fire Department

Bellevue Fire, in a suburb south of Omaha, serves as the second largest EMS provider in the area and the fellow will be exposed to opportunities for scene response, run reviews, provider credentialing and quality improvement projects. The annual call volume is approximately 5,000 runs per year.

Sarpy Tactical Medical Team

The fellow will have opportunities to observe and participate in the tactical medical team duties, call-outs and training. The fellow will also participate in education, quality assurance and administrative tasks with the medical director.

Lincoln Fire & Rescue

Exposure to Lincoln fire allows for observation of regional differences in the delivery of prehospital care. Lincoln, the second largest city in Nebraska, is about an hour southwest of Omaha. The annual call volume is approximately 30,000 runs per year.

Sarpy County Dispatch Center

Sarpy County Dispatch serves as our second-largest first responder dispatch center in the area and will allow for exposure to administrative duties, quality assurance and familiarity of electronic medical dispatch.

Cass County Emergency Management

Cass County EMA serves as a rural ALS response model for a large county with a unique tiered response system. Fellows will be involved with a paramedic fly-car that is dispatched to calls with longer patient care and transport times.

Air Method’s Lifenet

Lifenet is the largest air operator in the region. The fellow will have the opportunity to fly and be involved in critical care transport, as well as administrative duties.
