In this module, we begin by briefly discussing the epidemiology of chronic kidney disease and secondary hyperparathyroidism in CKD. We then cover the normal physiology of calcium and phosphate regulation. We move on to cover the dysregulation of calcium and phosphate regulation in CKD and its relation to cardiovascular disease. We finish with a brief discussion of pharmacologic interventions for the treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism.
