The essential public health service focuses on two key areas. The first is maintaining workforce education and training, which includes providing education and training that encompasses a spectrum of public health competencies, building culturally competent public health leaders and workers, and cultivating active partnerships with academia and other professional training programs. The second key area is supporting the sustainability of the public health workforce, which includes ensuring adequate workers to meet the public’s needs, building a pathway for future public health practitioners, and fostering leadership skills at all levels.
