Health and Safety Policy (for Live Events)

The Continuing interProfessional Development and Innovation department at the UNMC College of Nursing is committed to ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all participants during live events. This policy outlines the procedures and guidelines to be followed to maintain a safe environment.

Emergency Procedures

  • Emergency Contacts: All participants will be provided with emergency contact information upon arrival. This includes local emergency services, event coordinators, and venue-specific contacts.
  • Emergency Exits: Participants must familiarize themselves with the location of emergency exits and evacuation routes at the event venue. In case of an emergency, follow the instructions provided by event staff and local authorities.
  • First Aid: First aid services will be available on-site during the event. In the event of a medical emergency, participants should seek assistance immediately from event staff or call the provided emergency number.

Health Protocols

  • Illness: Participants who are feeling unwell or displaying symptoms of illness are encouraged to stay home and avoid attending the event. Virtual participation options may be provided if available.
  • Hygiene Practices: All participants are encouraged to practice good hygiene, including frequent handwashing, using hand sanitizers, and covering coughs or sneezes with tissues or elbows.
  • Vaccination Requirements: Participants may be required to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result, depending on the current health guidelines and the nature of the event. This will be communicated in advance of the event.
  • Face Masks: The use of face masks may be required in indoor or crowded spaces, in accordance with local or national health guidelines. Participants will be informed of any mask mandates prior to the event.

Safety Guidelines

  • Venue Safety: Participants must adhere to all safety guidelines provided by the event venue, including but not limited to restrictions on smoking, use of equipment, and access to restricted areas.
  • Security Measures: For the safety of all attendees, security personnel may be present at the event. Participants may be subject to security checks upon entry to the venue.
  • Prohibited Items: Weapons, hazardous materials, and other dangerous items are strictly prohibited at the event. Participants found in possession of such items will be removed from the event and may be reported to law enforcement.

Health and Safety Communication

  • Pre-Event Information: Participants will receive detailed health and safety information prior to the event, including any specific measures or requirements based on the latest public health guidance.
  • On-Site Announcements: Important health and safety announcements will be made throughout the event as necessary. Participants are expected to comply with any instructions provided by event staff.

Responsibility and Accountability

  • Participant Responsibility: All participants are responsible for their own health and safety, as well as the safety of those around them. This includes following all health and safety guidelines provided by our office and the event venue.
  • Event Staff Responsibility: Our event staff are responsible for ensuring that all health and safety measures are in place and adhered to during the event. They are also responsible for responding promptly to any health or safety concerns raised by participants.

Consequences

  • Non-Compliance: Failure to comply with the health and safety policy may result in removal from the event and disqualification from future events.

Review and Updates

  • Policy Updates: This policy is subject to change based on evolving public health guidelines and other relevant factors. Participants will be notified of any significant changes prior to the event.
