Code of Conduct & Professional Ethics Guidelines

The Continuing interProfessional Development and Innovation department of the UNMC College of Nursing is committed to fostering a professional, respectful, and inclusive environment for all participants in our live and virtual events. To ensure a positive and productive experience for everyone, we have established the following Code of Conduct and Professional Ethics Guidelines:

Professional Behavior

  • Participants are expected to conduct themselves professionally at all times during live and virtual events. This includes being respectful, courteous, and considerate in all interactions with speakers, moderators, fellow attendees, and event staff.
  • Disruptive behavior, including but not limited to, interrupting speakers, using offensive language, or engaging in inappropriate conduct, will not be tolerated.

Respect for Diversity

  • Our office is dedicated to promoting a culture of inclusivity and respect for diversity. All participants should be mindful of the diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences of others.
  • Discrimination, harassment, or any form of inappropriate behavior based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion, or any other personal characteristic is strictly prohibited.

Integrity and Honesty

  • All participants are expected to engage with honesty and integrity during discussions, presentations, and any collaborative activities. Misrepresentation of credentials, qualifications, or participation is unethical and unacceptable.
  • Any use of materials, ideas, or contributions of others should be properly credited to avoid plagiarism or misrepresentation.

Confidentiality

  • Participants must respect the confidentiality of any sensitive information shared during the event. This includes patient data, proprietary information, or any other content labeled as confidential by the presenter or event organizers.
  • Unauthorized recording, photography, or distribution of event materials or discussions is prohibited unless explicitly permitted by the event organizers.

Participation in Virtual Events

  • When participating in virtual events, attendees should maintain the same level of professionalism as they would in a live setting. This includes joining sessions on time, engaging actively, and minimizing disruptions.
  • Participants are encouraged to keep their cameras on, where possible, and to mute their microphones when not speaking to maintain the quality of the virtual experience for all.

Conflict Resolution

  • If any issues or conflicts arise during the event, participants are encouraged to address them respectfully and seek resolution through appropriate channels, such as contacting event organizers or moderators.
  • Any concerns about violations of this Code of Conduct should be reported promptly to our staff. All reports will be handled with confidentiality and care.

Consequences of Violations

  • Our Office reserves the right to take appropriate action against any participant who violates this Code of Conduct. Consequences may include removal from the event, suspension from future events, or other actions deemed necessary by our leadership.

By attending a live or virtual event hosted by us, participants agree to adhere to these Code of Conduct and Professional Ethics Guidelines. We appreciate your commitment to maintaining a respectful and professional environment for all. If you have any questions or need clarification regarding these guidelines, please contact us.
