Overview
Nebraska Medicine, in partnership with the UNMC College of Medicine and the Center for Clinical & Translational Research has established the Clinical Research Support Fund, a mechanism to support research conducted within Nebraska Medicine on a competitive basis The intent of this program is to support investigator-initiated clinical and translational research, as well as underfunded federal studies and national cooperative group trials. The goal is that this support will lead to extramural funding, leading to publications and innovative clinical techniques or care.
Eligibility
UNMC faculty who need to obtain preliminary data for extramural research applications or who have budget shortfalls for extramurally funded federal and national cooperative group trials are eligible to apply for this program.
Amount
The amount of support varies. Budget justification for items/services requested are required.
Application Due Date(s)
Three (3) weeks prior to the monthly Review Committee meeting (Review Committee meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the Month).
Application and Submission Information
It is important that applicants follow the instructions in the Application Instructions guide when completing the Clinical Research Support Fund Full Review Application for investigator-initiated trials or Administrative Review Application for underfunded federal trials or trials requesting less than $10,000. Please note, no application is required for national/cooperative group trials as the need for support will be identified by a Clinical Trials Analyst or the Research Billing Team. The completed application and all supplemental documents required should be submitted to the Clinical Research Support Fund email.

Exclusions
The Clinical Research Support Fund is a write-off fund that will only allow the investigator to waive hospital billable items required for clinical and translational research, such as laboratory or radiologic tests, hospital bed costs or other hospital-based services. Funds cannot be used for marketing, patient recruitment costs, research supplies or non-hospital testing such as send-out tests.
Review
Clinical Research Support Funds are reviewed by the Clinical & Translational Research Review Committee for scientific merit, relevance, and feasibility. The committee meets the second Tuesday of the month.
