This course is designed for clinicians and others to enhance health care professionals' understanding of sickle cell disease by examining patient experiences, current treatments, genetic advancements, and innovative care delivery models. Through this course, clinicians will be better equipped to provide empathetic, informed, and optimized care to individuals living with sickle cell disease.
Target Audience
This accredited continuing education activity is designed for physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, social workers, case workers, pain management, counselors, residents, and fellows in the specialty areas of adult oncology and hematology, internal medicine, and pediatrics.
Course Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, the participants should be better able to:
- Develop a more defined perspective of the patient experience with sickle cell including the care process and social dynamics.
- Summarize the current care models and apply strategies of care tailored to patients.
- Evaluate emerging models of treatment including gene modification.
- Examine health system dynamics and access to care models that integrate care and advance patient-centered care.
