18th Annual Fall Midwest Thoracic and GI Oncology Conference
This conference will explore treatment options available for the management of thoracic and GI cancers. This year's conference themes:
- Thoracic Sessions: Updates in the Management of Lung Cancer

Conference Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participants should be better able to:
Thoracic
- Discuss the impact of clinical trials on clinical practice.
- Debate the use of neo-adjuvant immunotherapy in early-stage non-small cell lung cancer.
- Select the appropriate imaging studies for patients with thoracic malignancies.
- Discuss the diagnosis and treatment of patients with radiation pneumonitis.
- Discuss the current state of lung cancer screening and barriers to increased utilization.
- Review the treatment options for hilar node-positive (N1) non-small cell lung cancer.
- Interpret clinical evidence and technical considerations related to sub-lobar resection for non-small cell lung cancer.
- Discuss the strategies for dose escalation in patients with Stage III non-small cell lung cancer.
GI
- Describe surgical and non-surgical options for the palliative management of GI cancers.
- State the criteria for surgery in patients with Stage IV pancreatic cancer.
- Identify options for pain management for patients with cancer.
- Describe the strategies to screen and prevent high-risk GI cancers.
- Give examples of diagnostic tests and therapeutic options for GI cancers.
- Summarize some strategies to improve oral intake during chemotherapy.
