Application cycles for psychiatric nurse practitioner and graduate trainee stipend programs open March 10

The next application cycles for two BHECN stipend programs will open on March 10. The application periods for the programs -- the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Clinical Education Stipend Program and the Graduate Trainee Stipend Program -- will run from March 10 through April 10. The stipends will be awarded for the Summer 2025 semester.

PMHNP Program Information

The PMHNP Clinical Education Stipend Program aims to recruit and retain nurse practitioner preceptors and students in the field of psychiatry across Nebraska, with a focus on rural, public sector, and justice-involved communities.
The program offers stipends to:

  • Qualified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs), physician assistants, and psychiatrists who supervise students enrolled in Nebraska PMHNP programs at UNMC, Creighton University, or Clarkson College; and
  • Students from Nebraska PMHNP programs with confirmed clinical training experiences in rural and justice-involved communities. The stipend for students has been increased to $1,000.

This program aims to strengthen Nebraska’s psychiatric workforce by supporting the education and training of future practitioners. To align with BHECN’s mission of growing Nebraska’s behavioral health workforce, students applying to this program must intend to practice in Nebraska after graduating from their academic programs.
