Natalia Acosta Canchila, PhD
Natalia Acosta Canchila, PhD, is the co-director of BHECN Southwest. She currently provides psychological services in outpatient and inpatient settings at Great Plains Health Behavioral Health Services, in North Platte. From the inception of her career, her work has been heavily influenced by a global and public health perspective, having worked in an interdisciplinary public health research setting before her graduate education. Dr. Acosta’s training includes a BS in psychology from Universidad de los Andes, in her home country Colombia, and a MA and PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
The majority of her clinical experiences have focused on providing bilingual behavioral health services to underserved populations in Nebraska. Some of those experiences include primary care clinics, non-profit community center and a telehealth clinic serving adults living with HIV/AIDS across Nebraska. Dr Acosta is passionate about facilitating access to mental health services by supporting current and aspiring behavioral health providers. As co-director of BHECN Southwest, she works to promote careers in behavioral health, demystifying pathways towards such careers, and support and retain behavioral health providers in the Southwest region.
