Plastic Surgery

Sean C. Figy, MD, Assistant Professor, Associate Program Director, Department of Surgery

For women who undergo mastectomy (breast removal), or have a large portion of their breast removed in order to rid the breast of cancer, plastic (reconstructive) surgery may be an option.

As explained in this video, not all women want to undergo reconstructive surgery. But, for women who want to explore this option, this video will provide information on things to consider and ask your care team when treating your breast cancer. Reconstructive surgery should ideally be discussed at the time primary surgery to treat the breast cancer is planned, even if reconstruction will be delayed to later in the care plan. The key is to ask questions and receive answers to make informed decisions.
