Endocrine Therapy

Elizabeth Reed, MD, Medical Oncologist & Professor, Division of Oncology & Hematology

Who benefits from Endocrine Therapy (ET)?

Patients with invasive or non-invasive (DCIS), estrogen and/or progesterone positive, breast cancer

Both pre -and post-menopausal women

If I had surgery and/or chemotherapy, do I still need ET?

Yes, you would still benefit from ET. It decreases the risk of a new breast cancer in remaining breast tissue and decreases the recurrence of breast cancer

Family history or genetic predisposition to breast cancer may warrant use of ET as a preventative measure. For more information on hereditary risk and breast cancer, click HERE.

Exercise and active lifestyle may reduce the side effects of ET. For more information on fitness and breast cancer, click HERE.
