Global Health
As part of the Global Academic Anesthesia Consortium, the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology is committed to improving access to surgery, anesthesia and patient safety in developing countries through education, research and perioperative clinical training.
The department will send two teams consisting of faculty, residents and fellows for two weeks each year.
Zambia
The University of Zambia School of Medicine is Zambia's first medical school. It is situated in the University Teaching Hospital in the capital city Lusaka, Zambia.
The University Teaching Hospital is composed of five hospitals: adult, pediatric, ophthalmology, cancer diseases, and women and newborn.
The population of Zambia is 18.11 million and more than 80% of the population lives more than two hours from a safe surgical facility.

Global Academic Anesthesia Consortium
The consortium is a collaboration of academic departments of anesthesiology, and provides both in-person and virtual anesthesia education programs, research, and perioperative clinical training in areas where a sustainable partnership is possible.
- Create collaborative opportunities to support anesthesia education and training, and research development in low and middle-income countries.
- Offer Global Health experiences and education for interested residents and fellows and medical students, through sustained programs providing service, education and research.
- Share planning, curriculum and simulation development, and costs/resources among academic anesthesia programs with the goal of a sustained presence in a location in need.
