Kearney, Neb., graduated in December 2023 from UNMC’s Graduate Studies Medical Sciences Interdepartmental Area Program with her PhD. She specialized in Health Practice and Medical Education Research. Her dissertation was titled, "The Effect of Non-Immersive Virtual Reality Radiographic Positioning Simulation on First-Year Radiography Students' Image Evaluation of Routine Positioning Errors." This work was recently published in the esteemed European journal, Radiography.

Elmira, N.Y., joined Big Flats Orthopedic Walk-In Care in February 2024.   

Sarah Clayton GS’11 
Des Moines, Iowa, was accepted as a fellow in the teaching and evaluation category in the National Academy of Osteopathic Educators. Her term as a NAOME fellow began in March 2024 and is effective through April 2029. She serves as an associate professor of physiology and pharmacology at Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences.

Saint Edward, Neb., joined the Boone County Health Center in the fall of 2023. Before this, he practiced at Hastings Physical Therapy Spine, Sport, and Extremity Center, and the Atlantic Hospital in Iowa.

Omaha, Neb., an associate professor in the Department of Internal Medicine received the UNMC Inspirational Mentor of Educators Award in January 2024.

Denton, Neb., joined the Crete Area Medical Center in family practice in August 2024. Previously she practiced at Topeka Pediatrics and Doctors of Children in Lincoln.

Kansas City, Mo., recently accepted the position of research scientist at Saint Luke's Mid-America Heart Institute in Kansas City, Missouri. She is a candidate for the DrPH degree in Leadership and Public Health Informatics at the University of Illinois Chicago.

Kearney, Neb., and Katie Messner N’7, ‘17, ‘20 were selected in February 2024, to the Graduate Nursing Student Academy’s Digital Innovators Program, in a cohort consisting of 15 graduate student teams from schools of nursing across the nation.

Omaha, Neb., was elected to the Iowa Dental Association Board of Trustees in May 2024, and was installed as the president-elect.

North Platte, Neb., received the 2024 Excellence in Teaching Award from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development in May 2024. She serves as the director of the medical laboratory technician program at Mid-Plains Community College.     

Anthony Podany P’12, GS’22   
Elkhorn, Neb., is an associate professor in the UNMC College of Pharmacy’s Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science. On January 1, 2024, he was named director of UNMC's Clinical and Translational Research Mentored Scholars Program.     

Jaime Seeman M’12, Obstetrics & Gynecology ‘16   
Elkhorn, Neb., joined the PanTheryx Scientific Advisory Board in March 2024. PanTheryx is a nutrition company dedicated to formulating science-backed products for human health and is the parent company of TruBiotics. She brings extensive expertise in obstetrics, gynecology, and women's health, further diversifying the board's knowledge base and advancing their mission to support people’s wellness in every life stage. She practices at Mid-City OB-GYN in Omaha.   

Andy Craig M’13, Family & General Medicine ‘16 
Minden, Neb., received the Outstanding Rural Health Practitioner Award from the Nebraska Rural Health Association in June 2024. He practices at Kearney County Health Service (KCHS) and is active in the Minden community, currently serving on the school board, as the City of Minden Physician, the Kearney County Physician, and has held several roles through UNMC as a rural preceptor for both physicians and physician assistants within KCHS.

Omaha, Neb., joined UNMC in February 2024, as an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and as a maternal-fetal medicine physician for Nebraska Medicine. 

Frank Lin M’13 
Madison, Wis., was selected to serve as a member of the 2024 Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine and Urogenital Reconstruction Fellowship Education Committee. The committee advises on fellowship education, oversees the match program, and promotes activities that support fellowship educational programs. 

Marti Stephens N’13   
Omaha, Neb., serves as the shop manager of Borsheims in Omaha. In February 2024, she was recognized with the Ike-It Employee of the Year Award. She started with the company in 2000 as an appraisal lab coordinator, left briefly and then returned in 2012 as a jewelry appraiser. Since then, she has worked her way up in leadership positions to her current role.

Omaha, Neb., welcomed a daughter, Tess, in September 2023. She joins big brother, Frasier.

Gothenburg, Neb., received the 2024 Marion D. and Theodore H. Koefoot, Jr., MD, Outstanding Preceptor in Rural Family Medicine Award from the UNMC Department of Family Medicine in May 2024.  

Gabriel Godart PA’14, ‘15 
Saint Johns, Fla., holds the position of emergency and disaster medicine physician assistant with the Florida Army National Guard's 44th Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Team in Starke, Florida, a role he has held since December 2023. Simultaneously, he serves as an infectious diseases and travel medicine physician assistant at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. He holds a Doctor of Medical Science degree, graduate certificates in physician assistant education and military tropical medicine and is on track to complete a Master of Public Health with a concentration in infectious diseases in 2027. He is a Fellow Candidate of the Wilderness Medical Society, a Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, a member of the Society of Army Physician Assistants, and an associate member of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. He holds a diverse range of licenses and certifications, including medical certifications in Advanced Hazmat Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, Advanced Burn Life Support, and Tactical Combat Casualty Care. His proficiency in disaster response is underscored by certifications in Basic Disaster Life Support and International Trauma Life Support. As a licensed physician assistant in Florida and New York, he possesses critical medical certifications like Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Basic Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.

Minneapolis, Minn., began serving as professor and chairman of the Department of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Washington School of Dentistry in July 2024. He also serves as the Washington Dental Service Endowed Chair in Dentistry and as president of the American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthetics.

Lincoln, Neb., welcomed a baby girl, Emilia, in October 2023. She was promoted to clinical pathology laboratory manager for Bryan Medical Center in May of 2024.

Lexington, Ky., and her husband welcomed a son, Carson, to the family on January 21, 2024. 

Shayla Yoachim GS’15
Lincoln, Neb., was named the director of student success and wellness at the UNMC College of Dentistry in the fall of 2024. She is also an associate professor in the UNMC Department of Oral Biology. In this new role, she will develop holistic strategies to ensure the overall well-being of students and serve as a liaison between faculty and administrators to address student needs. She joined the college in 2017 and currently serves as the course director for five courses and is actively engaged in educational research.

Alexis Bowder M’16 
Iowa City, Iowa, received the Papillion La Vista South High School’s Distinguished Alumni Award in the fall of 2024. She is currently in the pediatric surgery fellowship program at the University of Iowa. Throughout medical school and during her research years she also worked in Haiti as part of the Harvard Medical School’s Global Surgery and Social Change Program. She has global health field experience in Brazil, Costa Rica, Haiti, India, Peru, and Nepal. In 2022, she was presented the Resident Surgical Volunteerism Award by the American College of Surgeons. After completing her fellowship, she will begin practice as a pediatric surgeon at Eastern Tennessee State University. She will also be the research director of the Quillen College of Medicine Global Surgery Initiative. 

Riley Machal M’16
Omaha, Neb., won the Association of Directors of Medical Student Education Devneil Vaidya Award in June 2024. She joined the UNMC Department of Psychiatry in July 2020 and has worked with patients dealing with serious and persistent illnesses which includes major depression, bipolar disorders, schizophrenia and borderline personality disorders. She helped develop the Active Support for Psychosis in Recovery (ASPIRE) Clinic – a multi-disciplinary clinic providing wrap-around physical and mental health care to those in the Omaha area living with psychosis. Additionally, she accepted leadership roles in undergraduate medical education. She recently was named phase 2 clerkship director.

Omaha, Neb., joined the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology in the summer of 2024, as an assistant professor.

Omaha, Neb., and members of her three-person team were selected, in February 2024, as one of six winning teams of the 2023 National Institute of Aging Start-Up Challenge and Accelerator. They earned a $60,000 cash prize to put toward their initiative, Voice-It, an interactive, conversation-based artificial intelligence technology that uses machine learning to assist with pain management.

Elkhorn, Neb., joined the UNMC College of Allied Health Professions in the fall of 2024, as an assistant professor in the Clinical Perfusion Program and practices at Nebraska Medicine. Previously, she spent six years as a perfusionist at the University of Kansas Medical Center. During her time at KU, her passion for helping students became evident. She became responsible for coordinating and supporting the new perfusion students throughout their time there. She and her husband have two little girls and enjoy traveling, sporting events, and trips to the lake.

Omaha, Neb., received the Harry M. Vars Research Award from the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (Aspen) in March 2024, for her abstract entitled: Association Between Malnutrition and Post-Acute COVID-19 Sequelae: A Retrospective Cohort Study. She also received a Silver U Award from UNMC’s Chancellor’s Council.
