The Alpha Eta Society
What is the Alpha Eta Society?
The Alpha Eta Society is a national honor society whose purpose is to promote scholarship and friendship, and the recognition of high attainments in the allied health professions. Chapters may be established at institutions of higher education that have officially designated allied health units. The College of Allied Health Professions established a chapter in 1994.
How are Students Elected to Membership in The UNMC Chapter?
Applications are offered to student candidates in the final year of their allied health program who obtained an undergraduate overall GPA of 3.5 or better (out of 4.0) or a graduate overall GPA of 3.8 or better (out of 4.0) on credit completed at UNMC as part of a student’s program. (Please note, due to the timing of the application process, the GPA used for eligibility will not include a student’s final semester of coursework.)Eligible students are invited via email to apply for membership election.
The UNMC College of Allied Health Professions Chapter Nominating Committee, which is comprised of one representative from each program, will review the applications and evaluate each applicant for the following:
- Demonstration of a capacity for leadership in academic and clinical studies
- Demonstration of a capacity for achievement in their chosen allied health field
The Nominating Committee then recommends nominees in each of the allied health programs who best meet these criteria. No more than twenty percent (20%) of the graduating class of an eligible program shall be invited to membership. In programs with fewer than ten students, no more than two students may be invited to membership. Students who accept membership into the Alpha Eta Society will be recognized at the College of Allied Health Professions Convocation for their accomplishment.
