Is an interview required?
Yes, applicants can expect an interview with members of the admissions committee either virtually (Zoom) or in-person. On-site interviews are at the applicant’s own expense. Interviews typically occur in January. See How to Apply for more information related to the application and interview process.
How soon after interviews are candidates notified of acceptance?
Candidates will be notified of their acceptance by early February. They will have two weeks to accept the position. If they decline, additional offers will be made from the waitlist.
How many residents are accepted each year?
At this time, the UNMC Orthopedic PT Residency program may accept up to two residents each year.
When does the program begin/end?
The program begins around August 1st and runs through the 3rd week in August the following year.

Do you accept PT Compact privileges?
Yes, the resident must be licensed to practice in the state of Nebraska, that may include having compact privileges. More information on the PT compact.
What is a resident’s salary?
A resident is paid about 80% of a comparable PT (working 30 hours/week) in an outpatient PT setting (2024 rate approximately $44,500 plus benefits).
Is tuition required?
No
Are benefits included?
- Yes, benefits include: health insurance, worker’s compensation coverage, 15-days of paid-time-off, and liability insurance (vision, dental, and retirement not covered).
- UNMC will also cover the costs of registration and travel to attend the APTA’s Combined Sections Meeting.
Do I need a car?
The majority of the residents’ clinic and didactic time will be spent on the main UNMC campus, which may be accessed by several bus lines. The resident may occasionally need to travel elsewhere throughout the Omaha metro area for learning experiences such as observations with other healthcare providers.
What is the cost of living in Omaha?

Is housing available?
UNMC does not have housing available on-campus for PT residents. The UNMC and UNO campuses are located nearby, and multiple housing options are available. Apartment prices range from approximately $600 to $1200/month. These websites may be useful in locating area housing:
