Frequently Asked Questions

These are some of the most common questions people ask about our UNMC Medical Nutrition program.

What prerequisite courses do I need?
The UNMC Medical Nutrition program has specific course requirements. You can find that full list on the Admission Requirements page. You may not have completed all courses at the time you submit your application, but if you are accepted to the UNMC Medical Nutrition program, they must all be completed before you begin the program.
Do I need a BS to apply?
You do need a bachelor’s degree. It can be a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts. Either is acceptable.
Do you interview?
We do not conduct interviews. The Admissions Committee decisions rely on information provided in your application and by evaluators/recommenders.
Can I visit your program?
Due to UNMC and the University of Nebraska's policies designed to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the college’s campus visits program has temporarily suspended on-campus visits. During this time, we are pleased to offer virtual admissions advising sessions! Prospective students may register for a virtual session.
If you are not ready to apply but are interested in shadowing in medical nutrition, please request shadowing here. This will allow you to schedule a 2-4 hour job shadow with a registered dietitian nutritionist in the clinical setting.
When must I complete the DPD program?
As of September 2020, the UNMC Medical Nutrition program no longer requires completion of a DPD program to be admitted.
Do I need to take GREs?
No. As of August 2021, the GRE is no longer required and any GRE scores received will not be utilized in the application evaluation.
Is there a GPA requirement for my application?
Yes, a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.
Is financial aid available for this program?

Will I be able to work?
The MMN is an accelerated program. Attendance is required for all didactic and clinical courses and additional time will be needed for material review and team projects. We encourage students to focus full-time on maximizing the learning experiences afforded through the program.
Will I be required to participate in computer matching to be considered for the UNMC program?
No. The UNMC Master of Medical Nutrition (MMN) program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) as a demonstration program under the Future Education Model Accreditation Standards. As such, we do not participate in computer matching. You must apply directly to UNMC. Application information is detailed in the “How to Apply” information on this website.
