Flash Drive Encryption Options

All mobile devices (including flash drives) are to be encrypted.  Information Security Procedure:  End User Devices

Listed below are several recommended options for protecting data on your flash drive.

BitLocker to Go

 

Description:  Bitlocker-to-Go is included with Windows 7 and can be used to encrypt any flash drive. During the encryption process you will be asked to setup a password for the flash drive.

Requirements:  Must encrypt from a Windows 7 machine.

Windows/Mac:   Windows Only (Read only for Windows XP)

Cost:  no additional cost

PGP Portable

 

Description:  PGP Portable can be used to encrypt any flash drive.   During the encryption process you will be asked to setup a password for the flash drive.

Requirements:  Must encrypt from a workstation or laptop that has PGP already installed. 

Windows/Mac:  Windows & Mac compatible

Cost:  No additional cost.

How to Encrypt:  PGP Portable Encryption Instructions

Caution:  No recovery if password is lost.  Flash drive will have to be reformatted and data will be lost. Limit of 128GB.


 

Lok-it Flash Drive

 

Description:  Lok-it is a flash drive that has an external key pad in which you setup your own pin number.  Setup instructions are included when you make the purchase.

Requirements:  Must purchase the Lok-it flash drive

Windows/Mac:  Windows & Mac compatible

Cost:  Varies from $62 for 4GB to $125 for 8 GB (check their website for the most current price information.
