Bioinformatics and Systems Biology Core offers follwoing bioinformatics services to the community.

  • Biological Data Analysis
    • With the wealth of biological data generated every day, analysis of such data is becoming difficult and computation intensive. BSBC helps researchers analyze these data in its state of the art facility. It has expertise as well as resources to perform such tasks. Please refer to the resources section to learn about the resources BSBC owns and has access to. It has been helping researchers analyze their data using its expertise and the resources for almost a year now. BSBC has helped researchers look for patterns in the sequences that might be helpful for important scientific discovery. It has performed sequence comparison and sequence searches in large databases to help researchers mine information. BSBC personnel prepare scripts/programs to analyze large data and help scientists find the answers they expect from the data. BSBC helps scientists generate scientific diagrams, heat maps, graphs etc.
    • BSBC personnel have been providing services by doing biological data analysis to different scientists. Some of them are Amar Natarajan, Epply Cancer Center; Ali Nawshad, Dept. of Oral Biology; Robert Norgren, Dept. of Genetics, Cell Biology and Anatomy; Shyamal Roy, Dept. of OB/GYN and Cellular and Integrative Physiology; Shi-Jian Ding, Dept. of Pathology and Microbiology.

  • Development of Databases, Applications and Web Interfaces
    • Sharing data and results with UNMC and external community is sometimes helpful and may even be required. BSBC have expertise in development of such applications. It has already developed two databases for UNMC scientists. It has also developed web interfaces so that people can access the data and use it in their research. BSBC has developed websites for the center, different labs and department.
    • BSBC developed BSBC and GUDA LAB websites. GCBA website is under construction. BSBC has helped Robert Norgren, GCBA and Shi-Jian Ding, Dept. of Pharmacology and Microbiology to develop databases and web interfaces for different projects.

  • Bioinformatics Applications and Databases
    • Analyzing large and complex biological data in PC or Mac is difficult or in some cases not possible. BSBC maintains multi core (160 core) server to help UNMC researchers analyze their data. It has been adding publicly available and commercial applications in the BSBC servers to facilitate the researchers with new and advanced tools that get published every day. BSBC maintains most recent versions of publicly available databases to allow the researchers to access the data locally. UNMC community has access to the super computer at Holland Computing Center. BSBC is always ready to help scientists utilize all these resources.

  • IPA Analysis: Ingenuity Pathway Analysis
    • BSBC has been providing services to researchers by doing pathway analysis using Ingenuity pathway analysis tool.
    • It has helped many researchers including Shyamal Roy, Dept. of OB/GYN and Cellular and Integrative Physiology, Ali Nawshad, Dept. of Oral Biology for doing IPA analysis.

  • Whole Genome Mapping
  • RNAseq Mapping
  • Exome Sequencing Mapping
  • Other Research Related IT Support
    • BSBC is here to help researchers with any research related IT supports. In the past, BSBC has helped researchers to share data with collaborators, maintain database of their data for easy access, developed personalized blast servers to run blasts on their experimental data or any other selected data, and provided bioinformatics consultations.
