Jeri Schaben, B.A., CPSWS

 Jeri is the Consumer Integration Specialist for BHECN. She works in identifying concepts of recovery, developing partnership with advisory groups and regional peer specialists, and is forming a Consumer Speaker’s Bureau. Jeri was one of the consumers featured on BHECN’s PhotoVoice Project and now administers that program.

As a Certified Peer Support Specialist, Jeri has first-hand experience and understanding with the relationship between mental illness, substance abuse, and recovery. She has more than 30 year’s lived mental health experience and 25 years of recovery from alcohol and drugs.

Jeri is a certified Living Well, RentWise, and WRAP trainer and co-facilitates a weekly NAMI Connection meeting. She founded the first Omaha Compulsive Shoplifting Anonymous group. She is currently working on a Nebraska Educational Television mental health program.

Jeri has a diverse employment background that includes development, communication, and training. She’s won several awards for her speaking presentations. Stand-up comedy is her avocation and she incorporates humor successfully in her personal recovery story.

  • Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP): An Overview
    Learn about the most talked about mental health program today! Consumers create their own Wellness Recovery Action Plan to assist them in their recovery. People use WRAP to successfully control their mental health symptoms and stay healthy. WRAP is also used effectively to quit smoking, quit drinking and drugs, and reduce anger.

  • Compulsive Shoplifting Disorder: Illness and Recovery
    It’s an illness and a crime punishable by jail, prison, and dreadful humiliation. Finally, there is hope for people who just can’t stop themselves.

  • Living Well Illustrated
    Stanford University created this research tested, uplifting workshop that actually helps change negative behaviors. Participants have started and sustained exercise, mediation, and visualization programs that contribute to wellness and reduce chronic disease symptoms including depression.

  • RentWise Explained
    RentWise is a tenant education program that helps people find and keep decent, safe, and affordable rental housing. Participants are taught communication skills, how to manage money, how to take care of their home, and tenant rights.
